This is one of my all time favorite hymns. It shouts out so much of my heart that I can’t find the words for. This song brings so much comfort to my life – through the battles, the storms, Jesus is my anchor and he will never let me go! He is all my hope! Because of Jesus’ blood we are faultless to stand before the throne! So much rich gospel truth in this song.
Whenever I sing this, I think of the “other ground” in this season of my life – my doctors knowing what they’re doing, the medical procedures working, not having serious side effects from meds, and all of this working so we could get the joy of finally getting pregnant and having healthy babies, having a family. Unfortunately the end of the road is coming all too quickly and not in the way I had hoped it would end. It is so easy to put my hope into those things, even when I’m fighting against it. And Jesus whispers to my heart “all other ground is sinking sand, all other ground is sinking sand.”
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name
On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand
When darkness veils His lovely face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil
On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand
His oath, His covenant, His blood
Supports me in the whelming flood
When all around my soul gives way
He then is all my hope and stay!
On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand
When He shall come with trumpet sound
O may I then in Him be found
Dressed in his righteousness alone
Faultless to stand before the throne!!
On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand
