Christmas is creeping closer… I think this is sometimes the point where preparing can feel stressful and busy at the last minute. Maybe you’re not done shopping, maybe you still have all your presents to wrap, your whole house to clean for guests staying over and a wonderful spread to cook and goodies to bake. It can be easy to get caught up in the “stuff.”
But that’s not what Christmas is about. Christmas is about God becoming man, the Word becoming flesh, the Creator entering his creation. It’s about the King of the world walking on the earth, coming down from the throne of heaven to be born in a lowly, dirty stable to a poor couple of nobodies. Christmas is the beginning of Jesus’ long march to the cross- the march that began when He was in Mary’s womb. Christmas exists because Easter exists. Jesus coming as a baby would have no importance if He hasn’t died on a cross for our sins and raised from the dead.
I of all people know its easy to get caught up in the holiday preparations. But I pray as we clean our homes we can remember that no one made room for our King to be born. As we wrap presents we can remember the we give gifts generously but Jesus was the best gift of all. Praying we can quiet our hearts and humble ourselves before our Savior this Christmas.
