Tasty Tuesday – Granola Bars

This is another post stolen from The Oaks Kitchen. This will be one of the last ones I promise:)

Here is a super easy recipe i adapted off of one on allrecipes.com (shocker.) However, you can literally adapt it how ever you want! i love it:)  Also…. please excuse the poor excuse for a pioneer woman imitation (oh – – you don’t know who pioneer woman is?? Please go here immediately!)

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9×13 inch pan with Pam.

Grab 3 cups of oats and throw into a big bowl

Add in a bag of chocolate chips (about 2 cups)

and a bag of peanut butter chips (1 2/3 cups)

Coarsely chop up about 1/3 c. of walnuts

Add in a can of sweetened condensed milk.

I used fat free. Because when i eat giant hunks of chocolate and peanut butter chips, i like to pretend it’s healthy for me.

Please use whatever type your conscience or waistband will allow.

Mix it up very well and throw it in a pan.

Bake for about 20 minutes on 350 degrees.

Kick some butt on Wii tennis while it’s baking.

Okay you don’t have to do that… it’s just what i did.

Pull it out of the oven.  You want it to be set and lightly brown around the edges for it to be chewy.  if you like a crunchy granola bar, pop them in longer.

Let cool.

This is going to sound crazy. Because i think almost every baked good tastes better warm, fresh from the oven. BUT with these…. you need to wait.

If the ooey gooey melty chocolateness is grabbing you – – thats your only excuse. But you will not get the full effect of the granola bar flavor until you try it when it is cool and has set.

I couldn’t wait. The melty chocolate was calling my name.

Delicious.

And even better with one of these:) Please make these… and enjoy!!!

And oh…. here’s the BEAUTY of these granola bars. You can add ANYTHING in them you want!!! Just always use 3 cups of oats, 3-4 cups of “whatever” and a sweetened condensed milk.

Here are some ideas to get the juices flowing…

Craisins, white chocolate chips and almonds… for the classier bunch

Coconut, butterscotch chips and chocolate chunks… for those who like to walk on the wild side.

But no matter what fillings you do

chocolate chips

peanut butter chips

coconut

dried blueberries

flax seeds

pretzals

etc

The hero will always be this guy:
