“An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.” Proverbs 31:10-12
This is not the first time in the past few weeks that Steph has been described with Proverbs 31. One of my favorite things about Steph is the way she loves, serves and submits to her husband. Through the grace of God alone she has grown into a beautiful model of a godly wife.
Steph seeks the best for her husband and brings him good after good after good. She lovingly and joyfully submits to his leadership. She has followed him from Young Life Staff to planting The Oaks Community Church from the ground up to leaving friends and family and going to serve God at Sojourn in Louisville. And I know this is only the beginning of what God is going to do through them.
Kevin is a visionary, a leader among men. And he is supported, encouraged and loved deeply by his wife. Being a pastor’s wife adds a different dimension of what this role looks like. I have learned so much about this from her.
Steph has shown me the importance of our husbands spending time with other men. She has shown me how one harsh word can completely tear our husbands down but an encouraging word brings life to their souls. She has shown me what it looks like to be her husband’s number one fan. She has shown me how to create a home that’s a haven for our husbands to come home to. She has walked the line, delicately balancing the pastor’s wife role – – fiercely protecting his reputation, supporting him through trials and troubles and still raising her children and loving others well. Whew!
Steph thank you for teaching me some of the ins and outs of being a pastor’s wife. I have learned so much for watching you love Kevin and walking through life together. I’m sure I will even have A LOT more questions as Bryan becomes lead pastor. Be prepared:)
“Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the elders of the land. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised!” Proverbs 31:23, 28-30
