Homemade Staples #2 – Italian Dressing + Ranch Dressing Mixes

 I use these two seasoning mixes ALL THE TIME! I put (both of them!) on chicken, beef, vegetables, soups, pasta dishes etc. They are delicious. Please adapt the particular seasonings to your liking!

*Please note the sizes. Feel free to adapt for whatever size container you would like!

Italian Dressing Mix

adapted from All Recipes

Fills about 3/4 of a one-pint sized mason jar

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 c. dried oregano
  • 1/3 c. garlic powder
  • 1/3 c. onion powder
  • 1/3 c. basil
  • 1/3 c. salt
  • 1/3 c. black pepper
  • 1/4 c. parsley
  • 2 T. white sugar
  • 2 T. thyme
  • 2 T. chives
  • 2 t. ground celery seed

Directions:

  1. Add in together in a pint sized mason jar. Stir or close tightly then shake to mix well. Shake before each use.
  2. Use 2 T. dry mix in place of a packet. For dressing, whisk together 1/4 c. vinegar, 2/3 c. canola or olive oil, 2 T. water, 2 T mix.

Ranch Dressing Mix

adapted from Self Reliance (originally seen on Heavenly Homemakers) and One Good Thing

Fills one half-pint size mason jar

Ingredients:

  • 7 T. minced onion
  • 6 T. parsley
  • 2 T. garlic powder
  • 2 T. salt
  • 2 T. basil
  • 1 T. chives
  • 3 t. dill
  • 1 t. pepper

Directions:

  1. Mix ingredients together in a half-pint size jar. Stir or close together and shake. Use 2 T. in place of packet.
  2. For dressing – whisk together 2 T. mix, 1 c. mayo and 1 c. buttermilk or sour cream. For dip – whisk together 2 T. mix and 2 c. sour cream.

    Have you tried using greek yogurt instead of mayo? I’ve tried it when making cream sauces for pasta and it’s pretty great =)
